Choosing Your Water Leak Detection System
Electronics, computers, appliances, artwork, furniture, wall boards, and just about anything housed inside a commercial building is going to be easily damaged by water. This is a major reason that a water leak detector is often installed in a utility room or equipment area. That, however, is not the only place where such systems should appear.
Consider that even if network or server equipment is housed in a brand-new
structure designed to deliver optimal conditions there are all kinds of issues
that could lead to water damage. Unforeseen roof leaks, structural flaws, or
materials that conduct too much humidity are all major problems where modern
electronics are concerned. While an IT specialist or building manager may “check
in” on the electronics room at least once each day, it takes only a matter of
seconds for water to destroy computer equipment. With a good water leak detection system, however, most spaces can be secured as quickly as possible.
It is important to understand that modern water leak detection does not use only
a single method or approach to the job. They will put sensors, alarms, gauges,
and other devices to work in order to create an infallible system for
recognizing the presence of water or even unbalanced “spikes” in ambient
humidity.
In fact, the better water leak detectors will actually be “zoned” and
capable of tracking levels and activity in a range of rooms or spaces. They will
still implement the traditional sensors attached to cables, but they will also
include more than just water monitors too.
Just like home water leak detectors system might include modules for
recognizing dangerous levels of toxic gas, spikes or decreases in temperature,
and smoke, so too will commercially designed water detectors have gas and
temperature monitors built into their lines as well.
While it is possible to have independent systems to monitor each of these
issues, opting to rely on a comprehensive leak system means that the manager can
usually control the entire unit through a single panel or computer based
operating system. This means that instant updates and real-time readings on the
status of an entire building can occur with a few clicks of the mouse. This, in
turn, translates to the ability to act quickly, reduce any worries about issues
occurring within a building, and manage any problems before they get out of hand
or cause damage.
